Feature request: Syntax highlighting for TCL files

Hi,

lost of feature requests from me lately, hope you can bear with me.

Since most HDL tools have TCL scripting support I think it would be convenient to add TCL script syntax highlighting to HDT.

TCL

Thanks for the good suggestion. I have logged this as ticket:626.

TCL using plugin

Note that since HDT is built on eclipse you can add an entire TCL development environment by installing the plugin (Help -> Install new software... -> http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo -> Programming languages -> TCL Dev Tools).

I think one of the best things about HDT is it's ability to add plugins built for eclipse.

quality assurance for 3rd party plugins

Dear Adam,

Please be aware that in more recent versions of our beta version, installing plugins is no longer possible.

As we prepare for the 1.0 product release, we need to be able to guarantee the quality of our product. We can only do that if we control which plugins are installed.

The Eclipse framework does indeed have the big advantage that third-party plugins can readily be integrated. That is one of the reasons why we chose it as the
basis for our product.

We will continue to integrate high-quality third party plugins in our product. In our next release, we add support for Subversion. This is actually a good example: we are spending quite some effort on deciding which of the alternative subversion plugins is the best one to integrate in Sigasi HDT.

We are also actively monitoring the feedback from our user community
about which plugins are most useful.

3rd party plugins

Good point Phillippe, and I agree with distributing Sigasi with your pick of most helpful and stable 3rd party plugins is of benefit to us users. I however don't like the idea of disabling the installation of additional plugins because there are so many useful ones out there (eg GIT instead of SVN and bugtrackers). I think it is reasonable to give no support to additional 3rd party plugins but still allow the user to install them. An added benefit of this is that through the feedback mechanism users can automatically vote on which addons could be included by default in the next Sigasi release by interpreting which addons have been installed.

Alternatively, if Sigasi continues to be a plugin to eclipse then there is the option for the hopefully small percentage of users who need something other than your selected plugins to use an unrestricted Eclipse install with Sigasi as the plugin.

Another feature request...

First, I'll second the nomination for TCL language support. TCL is integral to nearly every EDA workflow, so should be supported for at least syntax coloring.

While we're on the subject of feature requests, I'd like to see Sigasi enable VHDL language parsing for non-project files. I realize there are a ton of project linked features that could not work (hierarchy, etc) but if i just want to look at a VHDL file that's not part of my project (say, to copy a choice snippet, or code review another person's file), I should still get the language sensitive goodness that can be done within the file (syntax coloring, signal name recognition & highlighting, etc).

thanks

Thanks Tim, for your input.

Other than TCL support, people have also asked about C/C++ syntax highlighting. We continue to evaluate when and how we can support this.

I definitely see your point why file-based parsing is useful. At this time, it is just not our highest priority. However, people like you that speak out on this forum help set the priorities. So I invite everybody that agrees (or disagrees) to let their voices be heard.

kind regards

Philippe

Sigasi HDT released as VHDL plugin for Eclipse

Hi all!

As you may have noticed, we have just released our Sigasi HDT as plugin for Eclipse. You can now mix and match plugins to build the ultimate IDE that suits your needs.
